It's time for me to admit an awful truth about myself to all
four of you. I'm non-committal. (gasp) I mean - reeeally non-committal. The thought of buying anything really expensive (not clothes, obvi) makes me start thinking all seriously about my life and plans (or lack thereof) and long-term commitments, and I just freak out. Another issue: buying anything for the home gives me awful anxiety. I seriously had a panic attack in a Bed Bath and Beyond once because I got so overwhelmed. Sure did. It's a terrible feeling, made worse by the employee who angrily yells at me from across the store that I'm "not supposed to by lying on the bed. It's only a display." If she was upset by the fact that I was lying on the display-only bed, imagine her feelings when she saw me sweating profusely and seeming-like-I-could-vomit-at-any-moment all over the display-only bed. As one could imagine, the combination of spending $ on things I don't enjoy purchasing and an anxiety around the overwhelming number of options available makes for an interesting time in my life right now. (okay really, I want to know why there are like 80 different variations of down comforters, and how I am supposed to pick just one, and then how am I supposed to feel assured that I have made the absolute best choice possible??). It gets intense.
That said, I haven't been intentionally ignoring my blogging responsibilities, but I have been pouring over home decor inspiration pics on
Pinterest and trying to pick out furniture for the new place. I have known for almost 6 weeks that I'm moving and insisted on selling ALL of my existing furniture/housewares so that I could start fresh in the new place (that is 1,000 sq ft BIGGER, mind you... Smart, Sarah). THEN I proceeded to get completely anxiety-ridden and bogged down with picking out any new furniture.. and still haven't ordered ONE THING for the new place. What does this mean for me? I have nothing. Well, I have a mattress, clothes, and a coffee maker. Necessities.
I thought I'd take the time to share some of the lovely images that have both inspired and paralyzed me at the same time during this process. Now, back to making myself actually buy some furniture.
Please tell me I'm not the only one that has anxiety in this kind of a situation....
Given I have pinned some of these rooms on Pinterest, I think you've made some fab choices!
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for starting fresh! Am doing exactly the same and will no doubt have similar commitment issues when my turn comes to get new stuff!
I´m so into interior design at the moment! Probably because I´m going to move^^ Great classy blog dear! Greetz Kristy
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more - interior decor is incredibly difficult! Love the images you've picked out, though...you have great taste & I'm sure your place will be fabulous!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think picking out furniture is the worse!! Good luck my deal. These are great images!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about picking out furniture (ugh!) although I love picking out knick-knacks for my house (i.e. candlesticks, picture frames, vases)...they are like accessories for the living room.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your house is going to look amazing when you're finished! :)

I get the exact same feeling when forced to pick between like 6,794 comforters/pillows/appliances/etc. I freak out and never know if i've made the best decision.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I think you've pinned some beautiful inspiration. Take the plunge on things you LOVE and then worrying over the other things won't be as bad. :)
Picking out furniture and home stuff is the worst! There are so many choices, things are expensive, and you never know really how it will look in your house. (Did I just make it worse??) Just know you are not alone! LOL I think you are on the right track thought, because you have excellent inspiration photos! Good luck, I can't wait to see the finished look!
ReplyDeleteFantastic places!

I'm the absolute opposite - I would kill to be decorating my place and buying pretty things for it. But, because it's a) rented, and b) I have housemates I can't really do what I'd like with the space and it seems kind of pointless. :(

Sarh, I can assure you that moving to and decorate a new place is both exciting and terrifying...I think there are many people that feel the same way, but I'm sure you will have a lovely home!

HAHA Sarah, those are some beautiful inspirations girl. I love Pinterest! They give you so many great ideas! You can do it! I think you're overwhelmed because you have nothing right now and need everything. Try concentrating on one room at a time or the LARGE pieces for each room 1st and then decorate around them. Don't feel like everything must be complete. You will add touches along the way. Get the big key pieces in first (bed, sofa, mirrors, chairs, tables first). I think that will help you. Also write down what you want and need for each room. That way when you're in the store you'll know what you need. Hope this makes sense and helps. :D
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny. Try to take deep breaths and relax. I know it will be amazing once it's all said and done!
ReplyDeleteI love all your ideas for the new place! I can't wait to see it. I get anxious as well picking out furniture and making sure color scheme all flows together. However, once it comes together it looks fabulous.

No matter what you end up buying, your new loft is going to be fabulous! I'm terribly indecisive and can take FOREVER in a store--choosing something as basic as a t-shirt (I was in J. Crew for 45 minutes the other day just choosing TWO basic crew neck tees, seriously), so I can relate. One thing at a time! Just think about how pretty everything is going to look! :)
ReplyDeletei hope you overcome your home decor shopping anxiety because i cant wait to see how you decorate your new place!!! xx

Confession: I haven't gone to Pinterest yet. I'm slightly terrified. I already spend most of my free time online. The stuff you've pinned though is beautiful. Just remember to send me a Tweet when you need me to hold your hand and bring you a latte. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have a really good selection here sweetie :).
ReplyDeleteDarling we all through anxiety like you described above...just want to say you're not alone.

You're not alone. I've always been a drifter and have moved 5 times in the 3 years I've been in NY. I hate to keep anything and I despise clutter. The thought of settling down and anything permanent makes me freak out big time.
ReplyDeleteI love that site! I toke me a while to make an account. But its just so inspiring!
